Why Your Content Strategy Needs to be a LOT Better than Mine

So, what do you do when your blog truly sucks?

Okay, look. I completely suck at blogging. It’s not that I’m a bad writer, and it’s definitely not that I have nothing to say or nothing of value to share. It’s just that, probably like you, I’m convinced that I’m just too busy to pound out a blog post every few days.

And like you, I realize full well that driving traffic to my site is a pretty simple proposition: One either buys a bunch of search or social media ads, or one is blogging their tail off. Period.

So, how’s the blogging going? Too busy running your business to manage an active blog? Yeah, I can certainly relate. Too busy then to hire someone to put up 6 – 8 blog posts for you every month and then manage that person? Yup, I can relate to that too, but here’s the problem. You just gotta do it.

You own a business, and in that business you’re an expert. You know it. Your circle of VIP customers knows it. Now, how are new prospects going to find you, and if they do find you how are they going to learn all about how smart and wonderful and effective and capable you are if you have no voice out there?

What if your site is just a bunch of sales copy, landing pages and product images? Even if those product images are super-high-quality. Even if those landing pages are expertly executed and your CTAs (calls to action) are effective. Even if your sales copy has been written by some superstar Copy Coach like Nikki Groom. Even if all of these things are true, you absolutely must have an active blog, delivering regular, high-value content to your audience and your prospective buyers.

PERIOD (.)

If you have no relevant blog posts, you have no Email Marketing Strategy. If you have no new Tips and Tricks, or “Did you Know” articles on your site, you’ve got no effective Social Media Marketing Strategy.

Your .COM is HOME

Remember, your website is your hub. All of your marketing efforts should be centered around getting people back to the website; back to your .com. Sure, social media engagement is important too, but the whole point of being out there is to get people back to the site. Email Marketing is your Ace Card. It’s your secret weapon; your BEST BET, and the entire point of sending out emails is to get people back to the site. Back to the site. It’s all about getting people back to the site, and allowing that site to do its job, which is to convert those visitors into customers or into subscribers.

Back to the site. Say it with me: BACK to the SITE. So, if you’ve got no content, you’ve got no lure, no value. Nothing waiting for them to bring them (ready…?) BACK TO THE SITE.

You just gotta do it. And so, for that matter, do I. My blog sucks. Hopefully your blog sucks less badly than mine does.

So how’s that blog coming along?
